Marty Stuart’s “Sweetheart of the Rodeo”

March 30, 2023

Marty Stuart & his Fabulous Superlatives' upcoming album, “Altitude”, was inspired by the Byrds 1968 Sweetheart of the Rodeo  — even down to the cover art. Much of it was written while the band supported Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman on the Sweetheart 50th anniversary tour.

Years ago, Elizabeth brought me backstage at the Birchmere when she had Marty record a PSA for #NAfME. He was so quick-witted and sharp, ad-libbing a cool bit about Sister Rosetta Tharpe in the middle of the PSA. The Holler interview reminded me of that encounter.
