Updating the U.S. flag to reflect the country’s deep divisions

September 28, 2021

The New York Times asked a number of designers to redesign the American flag to reflect how they feel it should represent the country today. To me it was a mix of interesting, strange, and meh, but I really liked two of them. The concepts are direct, bold and visually compelling, if more than a bit cynical. Of course, these concepts would never fly (pardon the pun) with most Americans, but what consensus is there about anything today?
